Charity and not-for-profit
Norton Gledhill is uniquely positioned to provide clients who operate in the charity or not-for-profit sectors with legal advice. We have broad experience over many years in dealing with the legal issues specific to these sectors. We bring our wealth of general corporate and commercial law expertise to these sectors, providing uniquely practical advice and transaction assistance to our clients. After all – organisations in these sectors nowadays face very similar requirements and pressures to those faced by for-profit businesses. The introduction of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (the ACNC) as an additional regulator is providing further issues for entities in these sectors to deal with.
We have a special focus on mergers, group reconstructions and joint ventures within these sectors, our personnel having been involved in more than 25 such transactions over recent years.
We also have extensive experience advising on:
- corporate constitutions
- governance arrangements
- tax concessions (including ACNC and ATO registration)
- commercial and fundraising arrangements
- the other areas of law traditionally encountered by organisations operating in the charity or not-for-profit sectors
Norton Gledhill’s Charity and Not-for-Profit Sectors team is led by Michael Coker whose experience in these sectors spans over 18 years. Michael is also able to draw on his lengthy and current experiences on the boards of a range of not-for-profit organisations.
